The East Carolina University baseball team traveled to Clemson, South Carolina, for a 15-inning scrimmage against Clemson University and lost 10-8 to the Tigers on Oct. 23.

For their first scrimmage of the season, the Pirates were unable to defeat the Tigers in the high-scoring game. Clemson created a large margin on the scoreboard early in the contest, making it hard for ECU to make a comeback.

The Tigers scored four runs in the third inning, unanswered by the opposing Pirates. Junior first baseman Josh Moylan hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, sparking two runs for ECU. At the end of the ninth, the score was brought to 6-2 off a Clemson two-score hit.

Junior catcher Justin Wilcoxen returned the favor with another two-score hit to bring the score to 6-4 at the top of the 11th inning. However, Clemson responded with the same two-run hit in the bottom of the 11th.

The Tigers added two more runs to their total to bring the score to 10-4 in the 13th inning. Even though Clemson did not score again, ECU was unable to come away with the win. The Pirates added four more runs to their total and lost their first scrimmage of the year.

Next, ECU will host the University of Virginia on Saturday at noon for another scrimmage game.
