Senior guard JJ Miles prepares to shoot the ball in last season's matchup against UNC Charlotte.

The East Carolina University men’s basketball team will face the University of North Carolina (UNC) Charlotte 49ers on Nov. 27 at Halton Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina, after the team opted out of its original season opener against Indiana State University due to COVID-19 concerns.

The game will be streamed on the Charlotte 49ers YouTube page and will be closed to the public due to state and local restrictions in regards to COVID-19 precautions.

According to ECUPirates.com, this will be a multi-team event in Charlotte this weekend as a result of the Volunteer Classic in Knoxville, Tennessee, cancellation. Charlotte was supposed to play in the Volunteer Classic along with the University of Tennessee and Virginia Commonwealth University.

The multi-team event over the weekend will have the Pirates face off against UNC Charlotte on Nov. 27 and then Belmont Abbey College on Nov. 28 at Halton Arena in Charlotte, according to ECUPirates.com.

The 49ers lead the all time series as they are 18-9 against the Pirates. The Pirates won last year’s matchup 60-56, which also snapped a three game losing streak against the 49ers, according to ECUPirates.com.
