The East Carolina University women’s basketball team (6-11, 4-8 American Athletic Conference) will have a conference home matchup with the Wichita State University Shockers (4-9, 1-7 AAC) on Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. from Williams Arena in Greenville, North Carolina, and the game can be seen on ESPN+.

For the Pirates, they recently suffered a 58-57 loss against the Temple University Owls (8-8, 8-5 AAC) on Feb. 13 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Wichita State recently suffered a 79-63 loss at the hands of the Tulane University Green Wave (14-5, 10-4 AAC) on Feb. 13 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Shockers have also had six games this season which have been postponed or cancelled due to COVID-19 related concerns.

ECU was scheduled to have a matchup with the University of Houston Cougars (12-5, 9-4 AAC) on Feb. 17 in Houston, Texas. However, due to inclement weather in Houston, the game had to be postponed until further notice.

The Shockers come into Greenville on a three-game loss streak, and they sit at No. 10 in the AAC ranks. As a team, Wichita State averages 62.5 points per game and they shoot 40.1% from the field, in addition to 30.8% from the three point line.

The Shockers grab 37.1 rebounds per game and Wichita State has 157 total assists through 13 games. On defense, the Shockers average 14.2 points per game off of turnovers.

Wichita State has three players who score double figures in points per game. The Shockers are led by junior forward Asia Strong, who averages 15.2 points per game and she grabs 5.8 rebounds per contest.

Senior guard Mariah McCulley is second in points for Wichita State with 11.5 per game on average and she shoots 34.0% from the field. Junior guard Seraphina Bastin also averages 10.5 points per game.

Currently ranked No. 6 in the AAC, ECU has held its opponents to 63.2 points per game on average with a positive turnover margin of 4.9, with less turnovers on average than their opponents.

On offense, ECU shoots 35.3% from the field as a team and they make 4.8 threes per game. The Pirates also grab 34.2 rebounds per game and they have an assist to turnover ratio of 0.7.

The Pirates have seen a spark from players such as junior forward Maddie Moore and graduate student guard Sierra DaCosta who have both averaged 9.1 points per game as of late.

Senior guard and preseason all-AAC selection Lashonda Monk has led ECU in points this season as she averages 14.4 per game in addition to 4.7 rebounds per contest. Sophomore guard Taniyah Thompson has also provided 11.2 points per game for the pirates.

In the matchup history between ECU and Wichita State, the Shockers hold the advantage as they have won three of the five contests between the two schools.

The series was deadlocked at 2-2 last season, but Wichita State was able to pick up a 57-55 win against ECU on Feb. 1, 2020, in Wichita, Kansas.

After the Pirates face off with the Shockers, they will have another home AAC matchup with the University of Cincinnati Bearcats (4-13, 3-10 AAC) on Feb. 24 at Williams Arena in Greenville, North Carolina. The game is set to tip off at 6 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
