After using Blackboard for about two decades, ECU has officially made the switch to Canvas.

East Carolina University made the switch from Blackboard to Canvas today after using the previous platform for 20 years.

Online tutorials will be available to students if they have difficulties with how to navigate the new system. These tutorials will be on the canvas website underneath the “Students” tab, according to an article by The East Carolinian on May 11.

Timm Hackett, a senior teaching instructor and former Chair of the Distance Learning Technology Committee, said in the article that Canvas is the superior student-centered platform to use in every way.

“To me the learning management system needs to be student centered… and the mobile applications for Canvas are light years ahead from a learning standpoint and a teaching standpoint,” Hackett said.

Student’s fears of having to transition will soon go away after they are used to the new system, Hackett said.
