ECU will have a daily self-screening for COVID-19 symptoms that can be sent via text message. Students can sign up for the daily texts through PiratePort.

East Carolina University’s initiative to encourage daily self-screening for COVID-19 related symptoms for students will be available through text message.

Interim Chancellor Ron Mitchelson said in a statement today the self-screening link will be sent to students daily via text message which can be signed up for through PiratePort.

In the statement Mitchelson said the Return of Pirate Nation website will help integrate guidance from the Center for Disease Control and prevention (CDC), American College Health Association (ACHA), North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) and University of North Carolina (UNC) System to outline risks to minimize COVID-19 exposure.

“It is our collective responsibility to keep campus as safe as possible, so it is critical that you conduct a daily self-screening for COVID-19 symptoms prior to reporting to campus,” Mitchelson said in the statement.

Students can log into PiratePort and enter their cell phone information via the “Mobile Device Registration” link to ensure the receival of the daily text message, according to Mitchelson.
