After a loss, the East Carolina University lacrosse team (1-2, 0-0 American Athletic Conference) will look to bounce back on Feb. 24 as they host Campbell University (0-1, 0,0 Big South Conference) at 3 p.m inside Johnson Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina.
The Pirates previously played an away game in Davidson, North Carolina, against the University of Davidson Wildcats (2-1, 0,0 Atlantic 10) where ECU lost 15-6. ECU was led by junior attack Megan Tryniski and sophomore midfielder Payton Barr who had two goals each. Tryniski added an assist to her statline as well.
Campbell will come to ECU off of a double-digit win against Stetson University (0-1, 0-0 Atlantic Sun Conference). The Camels won this game 15-5 in the Hatters’ season opener on Feb. 20. At least 10 players scored a goal in this game, with five scoring two. This will be the first road game of the season for Campbell after hosting two games in a row.
The Pirates are on a two-game loss streak, each by double digits. In the past two games, ECU has been outscored 36-12 overall, however today’s match is an opportunity to break the streak.
Senior attack Megan Pallozzi leads the Pirates in goals this season with a total of eight, according to ECUPirates. Her best game of the season so far was the season opener against Furman University (0-2, 0-0 Southern Conference) in which she scored five goals on seven shots. This was the first and only win so far this season for the Pirates, and the final score was 16-14.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Vernon has started the first three games for the Pirates in goal. She has allowed 41 goals this season along with 23 saves so far.
For the Camels, freshman midfielder Sam Bischoff has scored a total of five goals this season to lead the team. Redshirt freshman attack Megan Matthews and Julianna Sanchez follow close behind Bischoff with four goals each.
In the two games this season, redshirt junior goalie Alex Salim has allowed 18 goals with 12 saves.
The Pirates faced off against the Camels last season on Feb. 22, 2020. ECU won the game 12-11, led by Pallozzi, who had four goals on seven shots. Tryniski added three goals on four shots in that game as well.
In the Pirates’ next matchup, ECU will play another home game against Duke University (3-0, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) on Feb. 28 at 1 p.m.
