East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine and Vidant Health will team up effective Jan. 1, 2022 to form ECU Health.

East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine and Vidant Health are teaming up and will soon create ECU Health, a collaborative shared brand name, effective Jan. 1, 2022.

A Vidant press release said Brody School of Medicine and Vidant Health have agreed to work together under the shared brand name ECU Health. The decision was made Nov. 18 with unanimous approval by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors.

The press release said the motive behind the partnership is to solve any medical issue that may come across Greenville. The collaboration, the press release said, will be a better solution to solve any problem Greenville may come across.

“This is a monumental day for health care in eastern North Carolina,” UNC Board of Governors Chairman Randy Ramsey said in the press release.

The press release said the agreement states both Brody School of Medicine and Vidant Health will stay their own respective organizations but will work under a more collaborative environment. Most of Vidant’s organizations and ECU Physicians will work under the new brand name, but Brody School of Medicine will not change its name, according to the press release.

When it comes to Vidant Health locations, the press release said both Vidant Medical Group and ECU Physicians, effective Jan 1., will work under the name ECU Health. The press release said that as far as the agreement goes there will not be a change in the status of employees or benefits given to current employees and no assets will be exchanged.

“Today’s approval by the UNC Board of Governors allows ECU and Vidant to begin the detailed work to launch a clinically integrated academic health system. We are grateful for their support as we work together to provide quality health care for the residents of eastern North Carolina,” ECU Chancellor Phillip Rogers said in the press release.
