The Greenville Police Department arrested James Daniel Edwards IV. on Oct. 4 in connection to a fake racist Yik Yak post about the East Carolina University Theta Chi fraternity.

The Greenville Police Department (GPD) made an arrest on Oct. 4 of James Daniel Edwards IV., 19 years of age, in connection to a fake racist Yik Yak post about the East Carolina University Theta Chi fraternity.

GPD was made aware of the social media post which stated “Theta Chi rush party. PNMs (potential new members) and girls only. No blacks. Girls $5 at door. Call or text,” with a student's name and phone number, in late August, according to a GPD press release.

“Detectives with the Greenville Police Department Special Victims Unit have since been able to determine the original source of the post. As James Daniel Edwards IV. 19, has been charged with Cyberstalking,” the GPD press release said. “He turned himself into the Pitt County Detention Center on Friday, Oct. 1.”

GPD believes Edwards IV is a member of a different ECU fraternity than Theta Chi, as the police department has not associated him with the Theta Chi fraternity, according to the release.

On Oct. 20, 2020, the Pi Lambda Phi at ECU Facebook page shared a spotlight post of Edwards identifying him as a member of their fraternity.
