When it comes to Marshmello’s music, people all over the world jam to hits produced by the helmet wearing DJ, such as “Silence” featuring Khalid, “Moving On”, “Alone” and “Ritual” featuring Wrabel.
What people aren’t aware of is who the face behind the helmet is. Fans contemplate who the young DJ is, with some believing he’s an artist that goes by the name DotCom, due to the fact that DotCom and Marshmello are both signed by a guy named Moe. DotComm also oddly went MIA on SoundCloud when a different style DJ, Marshmello, came into the sense.
People think Marshmello is DotCom for various reasons. There are hundreds of Youtube videos about the subject; it’s pretty old news in the EDM world. There’s proof he has the same birthday as DotCom, and there’s proof they have the same tattoo. Skrillex, world famous DJ, slipped up and said Marshmello’s real name, Chris, which is also DotCom’s name.
I, a member Marshmello’s fan base and a girl recently hooked on theories, have an interesting one on who’s behind the helmet. Things may get a little confusing, so stick with me.
As I mentioned, Marshmello’s music is extremely popular. Even if you don’t think you’ve heard his stuff, you probably have. His music brings various sounds to the table, a pop EDM sound, like his recent hit with Khalid that went straight to the top of the charts. In other songs like “Chasing Colors” with Noah Cyrus, there’s more of a harder bass sound.
Let’s get back to Moe. Moe Shalizi is an artist manager at Red Light Management. He manages DJ’s like Jauz, Marshmello, Ookay, Maejor, Dotcom, Sikdope and Slushii. Out of the group, Ookay, Jauz, Moe and Dotcom are together all the time. They post about each other, they promote each other and they produce music together constantly.
Now that you know that, my theory is Marshmello is a combination of DJs. Kind of like a side project or an investment for a group of DJs consisting of Dotcom, Jauz and Ookay. There could even be more people involved.
According to East Carolina University student and Marshmello fan, Maurizio Casique, Marshmello hangs out with Kayzo, Ookay and Yultron often.
“I definitely feel like it’s more than one, because his music is kind of different every time but still brings that Marshmello sound,” Casique said.
If you’re thinking there’s no way it’s more than one person, it’s okay. I’ve even thought that a couple times while writing this. The thing is though, it may be a possibility. The squad who could be behind the helmet are all about the same size and they have tattoos, however, Marshmello wears long sleeves and white jeans while performing so that wouldn’t matter.
If you think about it, Marshmello may work like a newspaper and Dotcom’s the Editor-in-Chief.
Someone creates an idea, someone edits it, then it goes to someone else and they edit it a little and last Dotcom makes the final touches.
This could be a DJ investment and a way for these guys to get their music to the world without being a household name. All these guys that could be involved post about being together all the time. They perform at the same festivals sometimes and they repost each other's stuff on Soundcloud. It’s like they go out of their way to show each other off, and yes I get that they can support their friends, but it makes me wonder could them promoting Marshmello be them promoting themselves really?
