Governor Roy Cooper signed a bill Wednesday afternoon which will allow the sale of beer and wine at University of North Carolina (UNC) System schools during campus sporting events.
House Bill 389 passed through the NC Senate and House last week. Representative John Bell proposed this bill and after its signing by Governor Cooper tweeted, “The @NC_Governor (Cooper) has officially signed my bill giving @UNC_System (UNC System) schools the option to sell beer & wine at athletic games into law! Great news for our universities, fans and local economies!”
With Cooper’s signature on the bill, UNC System schools will have the opportunity to sell alcohol at stadium and arena sporting events, according to an article from The News & Observer. The individual campus decision, however, to allow the sale of alcohol at UNC system games is left to each of the state university’s Board of Trustees, who have the final call, according to the article.
Each individual UNC System Board of Trustees will vote on whether or not to allow the sale of beer and wine in their athletic facilities, according to The News & Observer.
