U.S. President Donald Trump, joined by members of the Coronavirus Task Force, speaks about the coronavirus in the press briefing room at the White House on March 16, 2020 in Washington, DC.

President Donald Trump announced on March 16 that for the next 15 days all social gatherings should be limited to no more than 10 people due to the spread of COVID-19, otherwise known as the coronavirus.

“We have made the decision to further toughen the guidelines and blunt the infection now,” Trump said in his announcement.

Trump said in his announcement that his administration along with the coronavirus task force made the decision in order to prevent the spread of the virus in America.

Currently, a vaccine candidate is in phase one of a clinical trial, according to Trump. He said the vaccine will not take long to produce.

“A vaccine candidate has begun the phase one clinical trial, this is one of the fastest vaccine development launches in history,” Trump said in his announcement.

Speaking along with Trump at the press conference was Dr. Deborah Burke, who is also a part of his task force for the virus. She said this limitation is for both public and private gatherings.

“Not just in bars and restaurants but in homes. We really want people to be separated at this time,” Burke said in the announcement.

The travel ban continues to be in place for most of Europe and Asia, as the coronavirus has now been confirmed in over 130 countries with most uninfected countries in Africa, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
