Taji Hudson, the new quarterback prospect that has verbally committed to ECU.

Head coach Mike Houston has picked up yet another coveted quarterback for the 2020-21 football season. Three-star ranked Taji Hudson verbally committed to the East Carolina University football program through his Twitter account on Monday.

Hudson is from Cedartown, Georgia and is playing the rest of his high school career at Cedartown High School, where he is currently a junior.

"I am a quarterback, but playing 7-on-7 lately, I've been able to mess around and play wide receiver," Hudson said.

He is a dual-threat quarterback, and with the addition of quarterback Mason Garcia from South Carolina, coach Houston should have plenty of options going forward at the quarterback position.

“For me personally, as long as I get a good education and do what I'm supposed to be doing, it doesn't really matter (what position I play). But I am a quarterback and that's my first option.” Hudson said.

Especially since he stated that he is willing to play wide receiver, Hudson’s ability to run with the ball may benefit the team regardless if he is running the offence or being thrown to as a receiver.

After considering offers from ECU as well as other universities like Virginia Technical University and Coastal Carolina University, Hudson committed to ECU because of the team’s early pursuit of him.

“(ECU) probably has been the first school on me, even before they offered me," Hudson said before he made his commitment.”

According to 247sports.com, Hudson talked about his relationship with ECU assistant coach De’Rail Sims before his commitment.

"I've got a really good relationship with Coach Sims and he's done a really good job staying on me."

Hudson will graduate from Cedartown High School in 2020 and may sign with the Pirates once national signing day comes around.
